ENHANCING UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCE VIA EFORMULAONE ENGLISH CAMP IN KUALA NERUS AREA

a. Meningkatkan tahap kompetensi bahasa Inggeris pelajar Tingkatan Empat dan Lima bagi menghadapi silibus CEFR (Common European Framework for Languages)
b. Meningkatkan tahap keyakinan pelajar berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggeris secara berkumpulan
c.Menyediakan peluang bagi pelajar berinteraksi dalam bahasa Inggeris secara simulasi
d. Meningkatkan motivasi dan halatuju pelajar menerusi program motivasi 

Many Malaysian university students still have not reached an advanced English proficiency level, as aspired by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). This is evident in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) results released every year. However, reaching an advanced level of English (MUET Band 4 to 6) is indeed very necessary for Malaysian students’ success in order for
them to meet the job demands in the current competitive job markets. Many teachers in the secondary schools in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, such as Terengganu and Kelantan, lamented over the Form Four and Form Five students’ low English language competence, particularly oral English language competence. The students were observed to have difficulty in meeting the English standard of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), which is an international standard for describing language ability, as proposed by the MoHE to follow. The low oral English language competence was claimed to be related to lack of vocabulary and lack of English-speaking opportunities and environments. Hence, this community-based project aims to enhance the upper-secondary school students’ oral English competence in Kuala Nerus area, a rural community in Terengganu via a 10 Day English Camp. The project will involve both the Indoor and Outdoor Activities (24 activities altogether). The funding for the project will be crowdfunded from the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN), Very Important Persons (VIPs), as well as the community in Kuala Nerus area.

Dana yang ingin dikumpulkan adalah sebanyak RM 10,783.00. 90% daripada dana yang disumbangkan ini akan digunakan untuk memenuhi keperluan untuk menjalankan projek/penyelidikan/aktiviti ini. 10% daripada jumlah yang disumbangkan akan dimasukkan ke dalam tabung endowment penyelidikan UniSZA. Dana ini akan dilaburkan dan keuntungan yang bakal dijana akan digunakan untuk mendanai aktiviti penyelidikan UniSZA pada masa akan datang
